About the Book

One year ago, my students and I had an idea...what if we decided to help the homeless by giving them the power to give at Christmas rather than just giving them handouts. We decided to give blank Christmas cards encouraging them to write to family. We had no idea how powerful our project would become. Not only did the homeless participate, they welcomed us into their community, shared their stories, allowed us to help find their families, and changed our lives forever. We set out to teach, but instead we received more than we could ever give as the homeless and their families allowed us to help them re-connect. For my students and I, the impact has been profound. Lessons of Hope shares our story - how we found love and hope in Vancouver's darkest neighbourhood.
