About the Book

This book is the account of a trip I took with my wife that followed the path of some of the most famous mountain men--Jim Bowie, Jim Bridger, Hugh Glass, Davy Crockett, and many others--as they explored west of the Mississippi River. We drove the back roads looking for evidence, momentos, anything that represented the past in the landscape of the present. We crossed (and briefly followed) the Oregon Trail, the Sante Fe Trail, the route of the Pony Express, and many other famous western landmarks.
