Layne Churchill was born on July 29th, 1978 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Layne graduated as salutatorian from Kent City High School and continued his education at Western Michigan University, where after considerable hard work and a lot of snow he obtained his undergraduate degree in Physics. At this point in his educational career, he thought to himself, “Why stop here?” and moved on to receive his master’s degree in Physics with a concentration in Atomic Physics from the Georgia Institute of Technology.







What he did not realize was that at that time, his future wife, Victoria Hamilton was also graduating from high school as an Atom Smasher. It was not long before Atomic Physicist Layne Churchill and Atom Smasher Victoria Hamilton serendipitously met at one Atlantian Waffle House and fell in love. They were married on June 28th, 2008 in Savannah, Georgia amongst over 300 family members and close friends.







In 2010, Layne graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with his Ph.D. in Atomic Physics. At this point in his career, he thought to himself, “FINALLY!!!” and closed the fourteen year chapter of his life that is fondly and sincerely remembered as “Thank God That’s Over!”







An avid Detroit Red Wings fan, Layne spends much of his time petting Kitty and visiting family. In August 2010, Layne plans to move with his Wife and Kitty to Baltimore, Maryland, where he will begin his working career at the Applied Physics Lab of Johns Hopkins University.
