About Author:
I've chossen to write this book in Spanglish for many reasons. The most important being that that is who I am. Born in Bajuras (Aquadilla) Puerto Rico and rasied in Brooklyn, New York in the 70's. It was a tuff time for Puerto Ricans back then. But at the same time it was magical. One of the progression that came out of the struggle was a new identity for NewyoRicans. But one thing that we never let go, was our food.
Another reason, is that many of these recipes go undocumented as being part of the culture in our own families. As an AmeRican you should know how to make a pernil as well as a turkey, an apple pie as well as a tembleque, a pastelillo as well as a taco, a mofongo as well as mac & cheese. So when my grand kids tell me "Grandma speak English please ! This is America"!
I reply, like Rosie Perez states in her Docimentary,
" YO SOY BORICUA
PA'QUE TU LO SEPAS !"

(I'm Boricua Just so you Know)
