I was born and raised in Indiana, the oldest of six children. I earned degrees from Indiana University in 1973 (BA in English) and 1980 (Master's in Library Science). The steel mill failures during the 1980s recession prompted my relocation to Virginia, where I worked at Old Dominion University and the Virginia Beach Department of Public Libraries.
I live in Norfolk, Virginia, with my husband Don and Sarah. My son Todd Carr lives in Woodbridge, Virginia with his wife, Ruby. The whole family is smarter and better looking than most.
Our family enjoys visiting the national parks, gardening, swimming, biking, and reading.
