Rod Griffin began studying Chinese Kung Fu in 1981 in a southern Shaolin Kung Fu system, reaching the level of 2nd level black.

In 1995, he began training Wing Tsun under Sifu Emin Boztepe and he, along with his training partner, Tim Weible,opened Kentucky's first Wing Tsun school in 2000.

In 2005, he had the opportunity to meet Sifu Allan Fong, a direct student of Sifu Leung Ting and was accepted as his student.
