Born Janice Benita Matthews on August 27, 1953, I was the seventh child and the third daughter of William Henry and Kate Naomi Fleeta Angeline Burnett. With so many siblings, it was easy to get lost in my own world and create pictures in my mind of who and what was important and what I needed ignore. As a result, I decided that one of the things that was important to me was to try to learn everyting I could about how my Ma did what she did.
