Annie Laura Wright-Smeltzer-Kinney was born on December 1927 to Essie and Lee Wright. She was born and raised on a farm near the Craytonville community of Anderson County in South Carolina. She was the youngest child of nine and the mother of five: four daughters and one son. Annie Laura resides today in a retirement community in Columbia South Carolina with her husband of eleven years, John (Jack) Kinney.
