Dorothy Frances, a most beautiful dragonfly, plans a visit to her friend Shelton Q. Abalone, a shell friend who calls himself "Shelty." He had written to Dorothy about a great adventure he had been on and how it was that he had come to retire part-time to the Shellhamas. Shelty tells Dorothy the story of his adventure as they sit on the shore. "Well . . . ," Shelty started, "it all began one perfect day when . . . "

Dr. Helena DeLuca is a dentist who, in addition to her chosen profession, also has a love for creating and illustrating children's books. Dorothy-Frances the Dragon-Fly is a character who was created in memory of her late mother. When she passed away, she and other family members saw many dragonflies and the DF-DF connection was taken as more than a coincidence!
