My name is Felicia "Ruth" Miller. My friends and family call me Ruthie or Ru, Rufus to my daddy. I tell everyone that my mom was confused because she named me Felicia and called my Ruthie. It is really not surprising, her name is Jennie Mae and everyone I knows her as Sandy. That is another story completely. My father is from North Carolina and my mother from Kansas. I was born in Florida and raised in Akron. Ohio. If you ask my Daddy, He would explain that even though I was raised in Ohio, his baby girl was “Southern by the grace of God!”
I have been an artist of sorts most of my life. My first job was as a Cosmetologist and Makeup Artist. Later as a young stay at home Mother, I made crafts and candies in order to pay for Christmas and Birthdays money. I went back to school at age 30. I was a single parent working 3 jobs and pursuing a degree in mechanical design. In college I was Student Senate President, Peer Counselor and I helped form a Community Volunteerism Club named INVOLVED. I was also a driver to establishing the annual event Woman’s Day at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College. I believe we must give back for the gifts we receive. The power of three.
While in school I developed a love for drawing older buildings. One of my teachers even had me sign a few of my drawings because she stated I would be famous someday. I am not sure famous is the description I would use. Perhaps Infamous would be a better description.
My Business background is extensive. I graduated with My Associates Degree in Applied Science of Mechanical Design. I never worked in this field. For the next few years I continued worked in a restaurant and bar management position. I worked for GEICO Insurance companies starting call center customer service and sales insurance agent. I moved onto a Supervisor and eventually a Trainer. I helped open the Buffalo NY office. I worked in three office total at GEICO, two of which were in VA. I took 1 year off work in order to look after my mother. Finally I worked for Kantar Media in media research and development as an operation supervisor and departmental training supervisor.
While was also credited with starting a Toast Masters Intl club at Kantar. I won many awards and public speaking contests as an active member. One of my speeches inspired a children’s book that I authored.
Over the last several years I was encouraged by my husband and family to return to my passion for art. I presently reside in Rocky Mount NC. I moved with my husband because he had moved with me several times. We support each other’s dreams. As the mother of four children and four grandchildren, I am blessed. Both my parents are still alive and they still inspire me with their passion. This physical live journey is only the beginning. My spiritual journey continues as I grow. My belief in learning and comprehending as much as I can of the metaphysical and supernatural is an essential part of my path and this journey. So I wanted to include the offerings of spiritual enlightenment as a continued way of thanking our creator.
My grandparents were from North Carolina. Our goal is to open a retail store and art studio in Historical Rocky Mount to complement our online store.
Thank you so very much for support my dreams.
