Each year 7th graders from multiple Midwestern towns get together and go to Isle Royale. There they camp in tents, hike their feet off (a total of 40 miles in 4 days), do their own cooking, cleaning and water duty. They learn about life on an Island National Park, about the plants, animals and people who have come before them. Moose and wolves, red squirrels, gray jays, foxes... you never know when the animals will come out. Each student creates a special piece of art showing what they got out of their time on the island.

I am part of the Renewable World Foundation, sharing my love of the outdoors and belief that all kids have something to share with each other during and after a trip. I have been involved with RWF since 2008 and have been a Venturing crew advisor, Isle Royale coach, and all around helper during those years. I live in Waucedah, MI, part of the beautiful North Woods of Upper Michigan.
