Betty Jane Gass Perkins was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She is the oldest of seven children and was cooking at a very young age. She never knew how to cook small meals, which was a good thing because there was always someone to cook for. She is famous for being able to throw together a homecooked meal as fast as you can say "We want chocolate syrup!!" The memories of her cooking will follow through her children, her grandchildren and now her great grandchildren.

Kristi Perkins Saxon is the youngest daughter of Betty and the most finicky eater of the entire family. She grew up watching her mother make everything homemade and enjoyed nothing more than walking into her childhood home to the smell of corn bread or pinto beans or chocolate chip cookies. Her friends and her sister's friends loved coming over to spend the night in hopes of getting chocolate syrup and biscuits for breakfast. Even though Kristi lives far away, she always thinks of her mom's cooking and looks forward to any meal that will soon come when she visits home.
