Laura Hovis-Martin is a proud new mother who was born & raised in Atlanta, Ga. She loves her life, family & friends very much.

Messages from the author:

My mom, Risa, was disabled and living alone. My sister started a Visitors Diary for when people came to see her. Our siblings and mom’s friends would write about special or funny moments of our time there or we would write about our memories or thoughts of mom. Sometimes my siblings and mom’s friends would even enter notes to each other. Mom could also create entries in the Diary.

The Visitors Diary became an excellent way to pass the time when mom was tired. Every visit I would read what was entered since my last trip and would make new entries. There were also times I would read the entire Diary! We would often laugh together at funny or clever entries.

The Visitors Diary was also a great read to have around for mom when she had no visitors. It helped remind her that she was loved and while her home was empty; she was never alone.

This way of communicating and logging our visits ended up being an excellent time capsule of our times with mom. After she ‘flew away’, my sister made a copy for each of us to have and it is one of the most cherished possessions we have. Many precious memories could have been lost if we did not have it.

The Visitors Diary is also a great way to log visits after the children leave home or when people come to visit your home. The pages are not lined so people can have the freedom of creating their entry the way they would like it. In addition to writing; they can draw pictures, decorate with stickers, or even paste pictures.

Our family has enjoyed creating this and we hope that this Visitors Diary brings your friends and family as much joy as it has ours!
