Scout is an innocent open minded eight year old third grader who shares his last time passing the man on Fourth Street as he commutes to school. Scout sees the man every day and tries to wrap his head around the perceptions of his father, mother, teacher, and others while incorporating the needs of the nameless man on the corner. While thinking about the man Scout reveals similarities and strengths the homeless man has in comparison to the adults figures he looks up to and is determined to help him in any way he can. What Scout’s family doesn’t realize is, to the child, help equates to their savings, expensive foods, and recreational spending.
