Vanessa Rivera was born in Monticello NY and moved to Mt Airy NC at the age of 17. She attended North Surry HIgh School in Mount Airy NC and was involved in a internship program, where she had the opportunity to work in the media center at Franklin Elementary School. " I always wanted to become an elementary school teacher since i was young. Involving myself in this internship program brought me closer to seeing how it feels to walk in a teachers shoes. I interned in the media center which gave me the opportunity to see everything going on from a different perspective.
