Diane Darrow is originally from Connecticut. She grew up on a small family farm, riding horses and catching frogs. Her education was initially in the fine arts. She received her BFA from Indiana University, and then a MFA in painting from the University of Delaware. Ms. Darrow came to San Francisco, California in 1992 when her husband began teaching painting at the San Francisco Art Institute. In 1994 her oldest son Jeremy was born. Next she decided to become a Montessori pre-school teacher. After her youngest son Seamus was born, she began teaching second grade in a public Montessori school in Richmond. At night she attended Saint Mary's College where she received her teaching credential in 1999. When Jeremy started school, she took a job teaching kindergarten in the Walnut Creek School District. She taught kindergarten there for five years. At that time, she received training as a Reading Recovery teacher. Ms. Darrow worked closely with first grade students in need of additional reading support. At Walnut Heights School she designed and implemented an extended day kindergarten program. This experience lead her to Reed School where the full day program was beginning. In 2010 she took a new job as the Library Media Specialist at Bel Aire School. She is now surrounded by books and has the opportunity to connect with a larger number of students. This is her seventh year at Reed and is thrilled to be a part of such an amazing school district.
