I remember the exact homework assignment that sparked a genuine love for genealogy research...it was, "Family History" week.
I was given one week to interview as many family members as possible and find out my heritage. I was to turn in a 10 page book report for a grade. Well, I took my portable cassette recorder with its hand-held microphone, paper and pencil and hit the family trail. I discovered that within each family member, there was a story that held an exciting doorway into the past, their present, amusing stories and details of places that I had never been. Wow!
Yes, we are family, but, every mind is an exciting, and different world. Like a movie theater that displays its' marquee filled with the names of their leading men and leading ladies, and the stories they will portray, I found the same emotional attachment in Grandma's story with its tragic and romantic scenes, or Grandpa, whose story was one of struggle and triumph.
As I share the details of our ancestors'..
