About the Book

Ang Danao (The Lake) is my first book that draws inspiration from my birthplace—the Municipality of Mainit Lake in Surigao del Norte. It contains stories during my early childhood. In fact, most of these stories were published in Dagmay—an online literary page that publishes literary articles every Sunday with Sunstar Davao and Davao Writers Guild.

I started writing Filipino poetry after I graduated high school. During my early decade in teaching, I had the chance of attending seminars in poetry and short story from National artists like Nick Joaquin and NVM Gonzales. On 2016, I had attended a public lecture in creative writing sponsored by the PEN, and as I listened to speakers from local writers here in Davao City, I took the chance of writing some short poetry, which all these are included in this first chap book and that’s how my story begins as a Mindanao writer.
