After learning that many children in foster care don’t have the right products to care for their curly and coily hair, Avery decides to help. With the support of her family and community, she begins creating special haircare kits filled with brushes, products, and encouragement.

Petina Dixon-Jenkins has a journalism degree from Northwestern University, a background in radio and TV, and two decades of nonprofit communications experience. She most recently completed an Executive Nonprofit Management certificate program made possible by the Allstate Foundation and powered by Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.
