About Author
author icon Erica Brooke
Joined: Jul-16-2023

Erica Brooke is a reluctant college dropout that attended Mercer University and KSU. She studied art education and swiftly switched to biology in hopes to snag a job as a high school teacher before she realized that was the furthest from what she wanted in life. She grappled with mental illness and complicated family dynamics before she dropped out and started her journey into motherhood.
She is an artist, (mediocre) musician, and poet that hopes to connect with others struggling with the woes and wins of life. Her works take a look at the tough rows to hoe and the beauty of the natural world. She is deeply inspired by strong emotions, death, nature, and exploring her roots.
Her love of the outdoors started in the mountains of Tennessee where she was raised by her great-grandparents for a large portion of her first years. She learned to appreciate the simple things in life from fishing, gardening, foraging, and more. Many of her summers and holidays in adolescence were spent in the small Appalachian town of Turtletown, Tennessee.
She was a member of an all-girl punk band in her teenage years, and her sense of individuality continues to shine through her life. She is loud, proud, and a whole lot of weird. Self-described as an Appalachian punk with a bleeding heart and an obsession with spooky things. She is a trauma survivor working through a late exploration of ADHD and anxiety that is devoting the rest of her years to personal growth.
