Covelo

Covelo, the name alone brings memories, tastes, smells, nostaligia, and a longing for my children to experience the freedom I did as a child. As young children my sister, Vickie, and I were allowed to roam the mountain, play in the streams, catch and ride horses, for the most part on our own. Time has a way of sifting through our memories of the past and like cream the preponderance or good or bad rises to the top. I remember only the good from Covelo. If there was loneliness or boredom, sadness or anger if has long since been forgotten and overshadowed by the good memories which are more likely felt stronger now than I felt them at the time. If I were to revisit the ranch today the enormous barn would most likely be a small shed with a few bales of hay. I prefer to leave my childhood memories of Covelo as just that -- childhood memories. A wonderful time of freedom.
