Midway through the 6th decade of my life I found that I was sitting back with nothing to do but follow a small child around and watch him. Watching him freed my mind so much that I actually saw everything that he was experiencing. I got on my knees and I picked up that bug or rock or flower. I stepped on the mound of dirt and in the mud puddle. And I lay on my back in the grass to look at all that the sky had to offer. And I sang. I sang about the dragonflies and the wind and I sang about the swinging and the climbing and I sang about the stomping and the running.
I sang to that little boy throughout his first and second years on Earth and he listened. That is when the books came to life. I gifted the daily adventures of that little boy to his parents so that they too, could enjoy the experiences that he (and I) were having.
That little boy’s name is Dax.

During my career in education, I enjoyed the opportunities I had working with children. I knew that every child could learn if provided the learning environment that suited their needs. I believed that a one-size-fits-all curriculum and environment was not the way to teach and I spent my career in education teaching and guiding children with that belief in mind and in practice. I spent considerable time and attention helping children master reading and I saw how they began to draw connections, gain confidence, and move forward in their learning. A very important part of any reading program is books and therefore a lot of my time was spent researching books for the various skills, needs, and interests of each child I taught. Now I find that I am writing books that will perhaps one day, be of interest to a child or two.
