Miriam Chelimsky was born in March of 1992 in Rainbow Babies and Childrens hospital. She has lived in the same house on Onaway road since she was born. She is the oldest in her family including her cousins and extended family. Ever since she was little she has loved to read books and write, and enjoyed reading the Harry Potter series and Chronicles of Narnia with her father before she went to bed. Her father, Dr. Tom Chelimsky, would read to her with such energy and emotion it made the characters come alive and gave her a desire to also write. However, while Miriam showed promise as a writer, she showed even more promise as an artist. Her grandfather, Oscar Chelimsky, was a professional artist after his service in the Armed Forces during WWII, and always encouraged Miriam to pursue her talent in drawing. She took classes at the Cleveland Institute of Art and at the Cleveland Museum of Art, but never enjoyed drawing as much as writing and decided to focus on writing. For many years, writing and reading allowed her to escape and enter someone else’s world. Since her freshman year at Shaker Heights High School she has been working on a novel that truly describes the struggles of being a teenage in this generation and chronicles her struggles through her characters. The summer of her senior year, Miriam decided to attend a summer program at Harvard University that would teach her more about writing and allow her to improve her writing. She loved her Creative Writing class so much that she enrolled in Creative Writing a Shaker Heights High School and is enjoying it very much. In the fall, Miriam will be attending Colgate University in upstate NY and possibly majoring in English. She enjoys traveling with her family, spending time with her boyfriend David and playing with her dog, Mason.
