Hope Whittaker hasn't left her house in three years. Something happened to her when she was twelve years old but she can't seem to remember what that was, all she knows is that it scarred her so bad she can't even look out a window. Then she gets a call from Nathaniel Hemming, a boy she knew in the sixth grade. He tells her that she needs to come outside because she is in grave danger and he can't protect her while she's locked up in her house, but that seems like the best place to be for someone like Hope. What could Nathaniel mean, who is out to get her? And why does it feel like Nathaniel knows more about her past than he's willing to tell?
