Mabel Ward introduced the teaching of Domestic Science into the curriculum at The Industrial Institute and College in 1903. She designed the Domestic Science Hall on campus that was known at The Mabel Ward Domestic Science Practice Hall. It was constructed using lumber and bricks from the old library on the campus. It was last used in 1984 as a residence for John Maxwell who was the Writer In Residence, writing the centennial play for the university's anniversary.
