The journal writings of Clarence W. Olive, who served in the engine room on USS Enterprise during World War II. He was there for every major battle, and his entries are told from the perspective of one who was there, but for whom the great sea actions were all around, but only occasionally affecting those below decks.

David Newton is the grandson of Clarence W. Olive, and served 20 years in the US Air Force, retiring in 2009 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He has always been interested in the Pacific War, and in particular, historical narratives of the USS Enterprise, largely due to the stories told by his grandfather, one of "The Greatest Generation."
