THE THIRD GENERATION IN PERSIA: Based upon the handwritten and hand-typed letters sent to the family during their 9 years as Presbyterian Medical Missionaries in Iran, and the final year of resettling back in the United States. I have spent the last ten years reviewing the letters and photographs in the process of writing this experience of my parents as I have understood it both during and in hindsight over the 45 years since they lived and worked in Meshed, Iran.

Working with the several hundred letters largely written by Miriam Eaton; with recollections and input from Richard M. Eaton, Elizabeth E. Swartz, Charles A. Eaton and Julia Swartz Pfister; and with photographs largely taken by Bob Eaton during their years in Iran, I have put together my own observations of the decade of missionary work by Bob and Miriam Eaton. The main content remains their own words and pictures in quotations, with my comments to clarify where I determined the need. The final drafts were reviewed by both Richard Eaton and Elizabeth Eaton for accuracy and clarity. All of the letters and photographs are available for others to review and consider through their own lens, as I have also used my lens as being one of the family recipients of each of these letters. The thrust and perspective remains my own interpretation, and as in all history writing, consists of representations as I perceived them during the 1959 to 1969 years as I experienced them.
