In the story, Lilac Lou and the Blue Jean Rat, when Eugene realizes he has been sprayed with mud on a rainy morning and his favorite jeans are ruined, his anger sets the tone for the rest of the day. Fuming mad , he collides on a city bus with the stylish and outspoken, Lilac Lou. After which his curious transformation into an avatar rat turns an ordinary bad morning into an extraordinary odyssey.
