As the only daughter of five children her family held her to a different standard. It did not help when she was diagnosed with serious health issues as a little girl. Within her rural upbringing she built a tough exterior even as she was crumbling inside due to feeling inferior. So many were ready to write her off after she became a teen mom. Not willing to become a statistic, her faith fueled her fight to overcome. Through bullying and abuse, sorrow and near-death experiences DeMaria pulls through with fiery determination. It is how she rightly earned the name MISSISSIPPI POWER HOUSE (M.P.H.).
