Many years ago I inherited a collection of 24 original letters written from September 1862 through November 1863 by my maternal Great-Great-Grandfather during which time he served as a Sergeant in the Union Army. The letters give us a glimpse of that war as seen through the eyes of one young Civil War soldier as well as a significant indication of the person James McDonald Mitchell was.
