At the beginning of the pandemic, I decided to take up a new hobby. Since my cake decorating skills were only so-so, and I longed to create those stunningly beautiful desserts that are literal works of art, I decided on French Pastry. Inspired by the film "Julie and Julia ", I picked my book out and started my blog.
This book represents that year long journey along with an unexpected and surprising discovery...my mother's incredible talent and influence on me. My mother loved cake decorating and even took a few classes on it when I was young. She was creative, did beautiful sugar work, and baked wonderful desserts.
Not realizing the depth of her knowledge, I slowly began to see that the recipes she knew by heart, just by another name, were really the classic French recipes I was now studying.
