Lila and Owen vacation at Echo Lake each summer. When it is time to go home, they do not want to leave. Hiding in a cave all winter seemed like a good idea, until they woke up lonely and hungry. When they stepped out of their rock cave, the world was not the one they knew. There were strange animals, flying mammals, dragons, walking islands and their cabin was gone.

Gma Brown, also known as Nancy Kay Brown has taught children, trained teachers and raised four boys in Bonny Doon is now retired and spends her days playing. Nancy writes stories for her grandchildren, six as of now, who live in California and Colorado. Many of her stories are almost true.
