The Thomas grandchildren and their parents all meet at a vacation house in Washington state. Grandma Thomas tells the cousins the story that was told to her about the history of the house they were renting. The house had been part of a Fort in the early 80's and was had witnessed three travelers that had robbed gold nuggets in the Montana territory and hid the nuggets or the map leading to the gold, somewhere in the Lake house they were renting.

Grandma is just another Grandma that doesn't get to see her grandchildren often enough, so she writes stories for them so together they can share adventures, even though it is only through the written words.
