This book was written by Mike Beehn, a former B52 Crew Chief in the United States Air Force. The book gives the reader insight into the years during the Vietnam War and Cold War when B52s were loaded with nuclear weapons and ready to be launched in the event of a nuclear attack on the United States. The former staff sergeant combines his memories with facts about the preparation for flights of the B52s stationed at Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota. As he writes he gives details of the launch, recovery, flight, and alert experiences of a B52H.

Mike Beehn, 68-years-old, retired as manager of Southern Illinois Lumber Company in 2011. He now has time for his hobbies which include spending time with his family, painting, photography, woodworking, and reading about military aircraft. His love of aircraft is a result of his years as a crew chief on a B52 in the United States Air Force. He decided to write his memories of these years in the USAF so his grandchildren would understand why he is called a veteran.
