About the Book

This book tells the story of two very special Great Horned Owls. Their names are Penelope and Carson. These owls let me observe and photograph them for several years through many life situations. Whether it was trying to survive the winter, fending off enemies, hunting for food or caring for their offspring - these owls shared all these aspects of their life with me. This book is not ment to be a scientific document, but a celebration in pictures of this awesome owl species.

The son of German diplomats, I spent my childhood and adolescense in several countries including Russia, Germany, France and South Africa. After my studies in Germany, I moved to the United States, where I currently live in Columbus, Ohio.

Since childhood the love for wildlife and photography dominated my interests and became a lifetime quest. Whether it was watching animals in zoos, nature parks, the German forest, or the bush and savannah of Kruger National Park - everywhere I went, I felt most at home in the presence of wildlife. For the past 10 years, my focus has been on raptors of which we have plenty here in the Midwestern United States.

While my day job in accounting and finance allows me to support myself, I spend free time with my two lovely daughters Sydney and Ruby, my friends and my four-legged or feathered friends in city, park, forest or wherever I can meet them.
