When Mr and Mrs Komurou die in a house fire, Grace and David Komurou have to live with their Aunt Ceris, Grace 3 and David 1. Then, years later,, their Aunt Ceris dies and their forced to step in and run the family restaurant, Grace 15 and David 13. While they are serving customers one day, shadows appear, only to be brought down by Sir Solomon, who leaves soon after the shadows are gone. But once Grace sees that everyone is okay, the hollow( place where shadows come from) reopens, something never seen before. But then Sir Matthews comes and destroys the shadows. He then tells Grace and David that they are needed and to come with him. Grace and David go with Matthew. They meet Sir Evans and Sir Calvin aboard. Grace and David agree to Master Troy and Mistress Angel's demands. Grace passes Liam's test, Liam makes magic clothing for prayer maidens. Grace is forced to pick her knight that will help protect her country. Meanwhile, David is trying to make friends among the knights.
