story of survival - jutka - mackenzie

My mother, Jutka—Judith Sardi, née Szőnyi—was once a curious young girl growing up in Kiskundorozsma, near Szeged, Hungary. This illustrated account follows her from the warmth of childhood into the upheaval of the Holocaust, when hunger, forced labor, and the struggle to stay with her family became part of daily life.

Based on her testimony and family memories, the book preserves her resourcefulness, her humanity, and the small moments that helped her endure. Prepared for a new generation of readers, it connects a young person today with a girl who lived through a very different world. I created it to keep my mother's voice and story alive in our family.
