Freddie Oakley is a highly regarded public official in the small northern California county where she lives with her husband, John, a distinguished university professor. Freddie and John have been married for more than 40 years and have two adult daughters who live nearby with their families.

Freddie is a well known, highly public advocate for social justice and human rights. It is less well known that she is a devoted servant of the divinity in every person through her faith and her many service activities with her church, including cooking meals regularly for homeless friends.

"God has given me everything. I was born with every advantage and have a wonderful life. It is my joy to feed my family and friends, to love them, and to see the food I prepare nourish them to love one another."
