In 1897, Nathan, Tommy, my future brother in law, and I, moved from Canada to Ellis Island 150 miles away from New York in a tenement house with many other immigrants. While in Canada I was engaged to the love of my life Nathan Anderson, and after we settled in Nathan and I got married on April 22, 1900, in a little church on the island.
After about a year Tommy and his fiancé Mary got married. Sadly after six years of fighting a terrible illness, Mary sadly died. Tommy was devastated. Tommy was so sad and depressed, he went to a mental hospital, it was a very sad time for the whole family. Nathan and I had our first child, Charlie Anderson on December 5, 1907. After a few months Tommy came out of the mental hospital, where then he went in training for the military.
After about a year in the military we get news that Tommy’s arm was blown off my a grenade. Nathan and I took care of him and helped him through his obstacles since..
I'm a 21, Canadian, named Jackie Smith, who is moving to the United States. For one find a job and for my freedom. I am also engaged to the love of my life Nathan Anderson. This is the start of a new chapter in our life. For me, my fiancé, and my brother in law Tommy.
