Food has always been a big part of my life. Every holiday table was filled with meat, macaroni, vegetables, bread, and salads. Desserts consisted of pies, cakes, pasteries, cookies, candy and more. We always had a fruit bowl to help aid digestion after dinner and we always had drinks and a toast. Having moved away from my immediate family and losing some grandparents, the celebrations have gotten smaller and less frequent. When I had my baby girl I wanted her to know all the people and cultures that were a part of her past and a part of her family. With that in mind I began my “family cookbook”. I contacted as many family members as I could and asked others to pass my recipe request around. What follows is a compilation of stories and recipes that are a part of my heritage, and now a part of yours. So, raise a glass to all who have contributed, alive and in spirit. Salute and Mangia!
