When Louise, a young pastor's daughter in the farmland community of 1950's Illinois, sets her heart on a beautiful doll, she believes that possessing that doll is absolutely crucial to her Christmas happiness. What she doesn't want to think about is another little girl from Sunday School whose father is very sick and might not live much longer. Louise will learn probably the most important lesson of her girlhood in this coming of age account, that Christmas isn't about what we possess but rather about what we give.
