Josef was born in Vladivostok Russia in 1953, to Anton Tukhachevskii and Irena Dzerzinskii. As an adolescent, his father was often absent from his life due to his job as a tank commander in the Red Army and consequently he was raised mainly by his mother. In 1976, he immigrated to the United States and became the owner of a gas station, still retaining his lifelong desire to become a writer. He now lives in Augusta Maine with his wife, Jenny and his pet dog, Rex.
