When Tavia Crenshaw receives a letter telling her she has been accepted into Power of the Pen Writing School, a strange organization whose founder, Mr. Lyon Hartfield, says he can make anything she writes come to life, she isn't sure what to think.
But in the end, she agrees to go, and it changes her life forever.
Her mission, she is told, is to use her writing skills to create living, breathing characters who can help stop the villains in all the books anyone has ever read from wreaking havoc on her world.
In the midst of all she was already thrust into, Tavia is soon cursed by a powerful villain to wander the Realm of Terror, a wasted, decrepit otherworld where she’s forced to constantly confront her worst fears.
What happens when Tavia meets the mysterious Gatekeeper of the Realms? Can those whose stories she has so lovingly depicted succeed in saving her?
