My boyfriend is in the Navy and when he left for bootcamp, he left all of his notebooks and both of his guitars with me. I thought it would be nice to have a bound copy of his music, but everywhere I looked was ridiculously expensive.
That's when I stumbled upon Bookemon and realized that I could not only have his music bound, but I could also illustrate it. I am a photographer and so one day I took his guitar out and did a shoot with it. I used those pictures to illustrate the book. I spent about 2 days formatting the book the way I wanted it and voila! I had the perfect Christmas gift.
I published the original of this book about a week before Christmas, knowing that it might not be delivered by Christmas Eve. I followed the progress of the book every day, and to my utter surprise and delight, the book was finished in time to be delivered about noon on Christmas Eve (I did use the 2 day shipping).
My whole family knew about the book and how hard I'd worked on it. They also knew how hard I'd worked to keep it a secret from my boyfriend! His was the last gift opened on Christmas morning, and he was stunned. He looked at the front of the book and opened it. When he got to the title page, he looked at me and said "you didn't..." and when I just nodded my head, he wrapped me in his arms and told me how much he loved me.
This book was the perfect gift. Not only was it easy to create, but it was also fairly priced. I was worried that the printed version wouldn't be the same quality as the digital version that I created, but my expectations were exceeded once again! The book looked exactly the same in print as it does on the screen in front of me.
