This book is an account of a Labor Day weekend trip in August 1971 to the Painted Churches of Moldavia by the author, Jenny Brain, and her mother, Annabel Lee Clements.

Jenny Clements Vogel (Brain) was living in Ann Arbor, Michigan from 1969 to 1972 with her husband Ron who was at the University of Michigan getting a Ph.D. in marketing. During that period of her life, she traveled a lot with her mother, by herself, and with Ron. Her mother worked for Pan American Airlines and was able to get Jenny a discount, usually once a year. This trip to Communist Romania was one of the most memorable trips that Jenny every took.
