d. m. allison presents 24 works on paper in gouache as the studies for works by Wanda Alexander leading up to her exhibition "Not as the Crow Flies" in 2014 . Alexander worked in gouache for only a few short years between 1995 and 1998 to let her hands heal from the arduous time consuming rigors of creating her dense large format works in Prismacolor. The artist found a new freedom and immediacy in these water media sketches, enabling Alexander to quickly explore many subjective and compositional elements in the time frame normally allotted to the execution of a single idea, before returning to her accustomed works in colored pencil. This body of work is presented now as the artist calls on this cache of ideas for her exhibition at d. m. allison in early 2014.
