ABOUT THE AUTHORS
The authors, are Master of Social Work graduates from the University of Denver and currently live in Denver, Colorado.
This book was inspired by a trip to Kenya, which was made possible by Philip Tedeschi, David Gies and The Institute for the Human-Animal Connection, at the University of Denver's Graduate School of Social Work. As students of GSSW, the authors participated in a Global Practice and Service Learning course to Kenya. The course focused on conservation social work, where they were able to work with the Africa Network for Animal Welfare (ANAW).
Working together with ANAW, the authors were given the opportunity to work with local Kenyan communities. During this time they gained perspectives on the deep connection between the state of the natural environment and its impact on human health. First hand, the authors were able to see the urgency of the world-wide story of finding sustainable ways to co-exist with the natural world.
