The help is set in Jackson, Mississippi and begins in August of 1962. The help is about three main people Abilieen, Minny, and Skeeter. Abilieen is a black woman who works as a maid for the Leefolts family. As their maid she takes care of May Mobley the two year old white baby. Minny is another black maid that works for Mrs. Hilly. Minny gets tired of the way Mrs. Hilly treats her and decides to get pay back. Mean while Skeeter is a young white lady who had a black maid when she was little . We find out later in the book that she is working for a publishing house in New York. Skeeter starts interviewing maids about their job, what goes on around the house, and how they feel.
