About Author:
On May 10, 2008, I rode my bicycle out of Mobile, Alabama, along with 29 other women, and began a cycling adventure that would end in Niagara-on-the Lake, Ontario, Canada on June 14. We the followed the backroads through eight states along the Underground Railroad, a route used by the Freedom Seekers to escape the bonds of slavery before the Civil War. We biked thiry days, with six rest days, on our journey north, enduring hot humid days, thunder and lightening, a hail storm, tornado warnings, and wind. We were yelled at by motorist, frightened by log trucks, chased by dogs, and worn out by the hills, but we also had delightful encounters with local men and women along the way, saw the beautiful countryside as we cycled past, laughed at the funny signs and yard art, ate in diners, cafes, roadside stands, gas stations, and even a few restaurants. We got to know ourselves and each other, to see the flowers along the roadside, and smell their aroma, to feel the wind in our faces and the sun on our backs. It was a challenging, empowering experience, and I'm glad I did it. This book is taken from the online blog that I kept daily for family and friends who wanted to follow along with me.
