This book is to help children learn how to pronounce each letter of the alphabet. Once they know how each letter is pronounced, they can sound out any word phonetically.
It should be read to them (or sung to them as I have done with my children) like this:
A, a (short A sound), apple
B, b (B sound), boy
C, c (hard C sound), cat
....and so on.
